The last time Hemingway visited Pamplona

Ernst Hemingway in Pamplona
Ernst Hemingway in Pamplona

50 years ago, Ernst Hemingway travelled for the last time to Pamplona. That’s the news. But the narrow, almost indissoluble connection between the writer and the Sanfermines started some time back when he first visited the city in 1923. In 1926 he published his first full-length novel, The Sun Also Rises (also known as ‘Fiesta’ in the British, German and Spanish editions of the novel ), where he depicted the Sanfermines and made them kown to the world.

Other works set in Spain include Death in the Afternoon, a book about bullfighting, and For Whom the Bell Tolls , based on real events taking place during the Spanish Civil War.
